IBM Plex Mono belongs to Plex, the typeface family developed by the IBM Brand and Experience team and designed by Mike Abbink with Bold Monday. IBM describes the family as a neutral but friendly grotesque, built to reflect the company’s history and the relationship between people and machines. Sans, Sans Condensed, Serif and Mono are meant to work alone or together.

The download holds six static files: Regular, Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Medium and SemiBold. The full family also has Thin, ExtraLight and Light, which are not in this pack. The italics are expressive rather than slanted copies. Coverage includes Latin, Central and Eastern European Latin, Cyrillic and Vietnamese.

It reads well in code editors, terminal screenshots, documentation and tables of numbers. It is wider and warmer than many coding fonts, so it can look loose in dense layouts. For prose, pair it with IBM Plex Sans or IBM Plex Serif to keep the family together, or put Inter next to it in an interface. Roboto Mono is a tighter alternative.
