Abril Fatface is by TypeTogether, the studio of Veronika Burian and José Scaglione. It is the heavy titling weight of their larger Abril family and is based on the fat face types printed on advertising posters in 19th-century Britain and France: very thick vertical strokes, hairline serifs and clean, round curves.
There is one style, Regular, and it needs size: magazine headlines, book covers, posters and logos. At small sizes the thin serifs break up, so keep it for display text. The Extended Latin character set supports more than 50 languages, including Central and Northern European ones.
Pair it with a calm text serif like Lora for an editorial page, or with DM Sans for a classic headline over modern body text. If you need several weights in a similar high-contrast style, look at Playfair Display.
